Gwangju: All three South Korean archers in action have successfully reached the quarterfinals of the women's recurve individual event at the World Archery Championships. The event is taking place at May 18 Democracy Plaza in Gwangju, located 270 kilometers south of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, world number one Lim Si-hyeon secured her quarterfinals spot by defeating Gatha Anandrao Khadake of India with a score of 6-0 (30-26, 28-25, 29-24) in the round of 16. Lim is set to compete against Diananda Choirunisa of Indonesia in the next round. Her teammates, An San and Kang Chae-young, also emerged victorious in their respective matches. An triumphed over Huang Yuwei of China with a 6-2 scoreline (28-27, 28-26, 26-27, 29-28), and Kang overcame Dunya Yenihayat of Turkey with a 7-1 victory (29-29, 29-26, 29-28, 27-26).

In the forthcoming quarterfinals, An will face Li Jiaman of China, while Kang will compete against Alejandra Valencia of Mexico. Should both An and Kang advance, they will meet each other in the semifinals. The quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The South Korean archers have already secured the team bronze medal earlier in the week, with An adding a silver in the mixed team event. All three archers are aiming to clinch their first individual world title. Kang previously won silver in 2019, An secured bronze in 2021, and Lim, who debuted two years ago in Berlin with a mixed team gold, was earlier eliminated in the individual quarterfinals.

South Korea has historically dominated the women's recurve individual event, achieving podium sweeps in both 2003 and 2005. However, the last four world championships have seen winners from different countries. South Korea had aimed to take home all five recurve gold medals this year but has thus far secured only a gold in the men's team event, along with a silver in the mixed team and bronze in both the men's individual and women's team events.
