Tesla Tops Imported Car Sales in S. Korea for 7th Straight Month in August

Seoul: U.S. electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla was the bestselling imported passenger car brand in South Korea for the seventh consecutive month in August, industry data showed Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA) reported that 29,817 imported passenger cars were newly registered last month, marking an increase of 9.2 percent from a year earlier. Tesla led the market with 10,400 units, maintaining the top spot since February.

BMW secured the second position with 6,180 units, while Mercedes-Benz followed with 3,959 units. China's BYD also showed a strong performance, selling 2,846 units. The Tesla Model Y Premium emerged as the bestselling imported model last month, with 7,490 units sold.

Driven by the robust demand for EVs from brands such as Tesla and BYD, EVs accounted for approximately half of all imported passenger car registrations, totaling 15,183 units in August.
