Seoul: The Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a lower court's decision in the high-profile divorce case of SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, remanding the case back to the appellate court for further examination. The case has garnered significant attention due to Chey's prominent position at the helm of South Korea's second-largest conglomerate.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul High Court had previously ruled in May of last year that Chey was required to pay a substantial sum in the divorce settlement. The ruling mandated Chey to provide 1.38 trillion won (approximately US$971 million) in property division and an additional 2 billion won in alimony to his estranged wife, Roh Soh-yeong.

This legal battle began in 2015 when Chey publicly announced his intention to divorce and officially filed for a divorce settlement two years later. The case's return to the appellate court signifies that the legal proceedings will continue as both parties seek resolution.
