Supreme Court Justice Noh Named New Head of National Court Administration

Seoul: The Supreme Court announced that Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae has appointed Justice Noh Gyeong-pil as the new head of the National Court Administration (NCA). Justice Noh will oversee judicial administration affairs, a role traditionally held by one of the Supreme Court justices, and his tenure is set to begin on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the 62-year-old Noh began his judicial career in 1997 and has served in various capacities, including as a research judge at the Supreme Court. His experience extends to service at the Seoul High Court, the Gwangju High Court, and the Suwon High Court. In August 2024, he was appointed as a Supreme Court justice. During his time as a Supreme Court research judge, Noh was noted for his work in promoting citizens' fundamental rights by reviewing disputes related to the Constitution and administrative laws.

The NCA chief position had been vacant for over four months following the resignation of former chief Park Young-jae in February. The delay in appointing a new NCA chief was due to the retirement of former Supreme Court Justice Roh Tae-ak, leaving the top court with only 13 members. Supreme Court proceedings require at least 12 justices, while the chief justice and the NCA chief typically do not participate in court proceedings.
