Milan: Having bagged a silver medal at each of the past two Winter Olympics, speed skater Chung Jae-won will be after his third career medal on Saturday at the Milan-Cortina Winter Games. Chung will compete in the men's mass start at Milano Speed Skating Stadium in Milan. The semifinals are set for 3 p.m., followed by the final at 4:40 p.m.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Chung was a team pursuit silver medalist at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games when he was still only 16 years old. Four years later in Beijing, Chung took silver in the mass start. The mass start stands out from other speed skating events because all skaters compete together and some physical contact is allowed. It is a hybrid, highly tactical race with elements often found in short track speed skating. Chung received a last-minute entry into the 1,500m on Thursday and finished 14th with a time of 1:45.80.

Also on Saturday, the four-man bobsleigh competition begins with the first two runs at Cortina Sliding Centre in Cortina d'Ampezzo, 260 kilometers northeast of Milan. Pilot Kim Jin-su, his pushmen Kim Sun-wook and Kim Hyeong-geun, and brakeman Lee Geon-u won the bronze medal at a World Cup event at the same Cortina venue in November last year for South Korea's first World Cup medal in a four-man event. Kim Jin-su and Kim Hyeong-geun finished well outside medal contention in the two-man event earlier this week and look to redeem themselves this time.
