Seoul: A special counsel team on Monday sought a warrant to arrest former Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup and four others over allegations of government interference in a military probe into the 2023 death of a young Marine. The team, led by special counsel Lee Myeong-hyeon, is delving into allegations that high-ranking officials from the previous Yoon Suk Yeol administration interfered with the investigation.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the special counsel's team initiated its investigation in July, focusing on these serious claims of obstruction by former government officials. The request for an arrest warrant signifies a pivotal step in the ongoing probe, as authorities aim to hold accountable those involved in potentially undermining the integrity of the military's investigation process.
