Seoul: A special counsel team on Tuesday sought a 23-year prison term for former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in an appeal of his insurrection case stemming from former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed martial law bid.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the request was made at the Seoul High Court by special counsel Cho Eun-suk's team, which matched the 23-year term previously handed down by a lower court in January. The lower court had found Han guilty of playing a key role in the insurrection by not stopping Yoon from declaring martial law on December 3, 2024.
The appeal underscores the ongoing legal battles surrounding the political turmoil associated with Yoon's presidency and the attempted imposition of martial law. The special counsel's request highlights the severity of the charges against Han and the perceived gravity of his actions during the critical period in question.
