Seoul: South Korea's space agency announced its plans to localize key components for a five-seat hybrid vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft, with a goal to produce four prototypes by 2032. The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) revealed this initiative during a public hearing, aiming to gather insights from industry, academia, and research institutions, as well as to assess additional demand from the public sector.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the proposed aircraft will be designed to accommodate five passengers, boasting a target range of over 200 kilometers. It will have a payload capacity of at least 600 kilograms and maintain a flight time exceeding 60 minutes. Unlike VTOL aircraft powered solely by batteries, this hybrid model will incorporate an engine, enabling it to carry heavier loads and cover longer distances.

KASA intends to present the project to the Ministry of Science and ICT in November, seeking approval as a state-funded research and development initiative. The agency's endeavor marks a significant step in advancing local aerospace technology and meeting the growing demand for innovative aviation solutions.
