South Korea’s Financial Regulator Aims to Boost Capital Market’s Global Standing

Seoul:The chief of South Korea's financial regulator announced plans to intensify efforts to enhance the global standing of the country's capital market through consistent policy support.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Eog-weon, chairman of the Financial Services Commission (FSC), emphasized during the Korea Premium Weeks 2026 that the local stock market's global reputation has improved, citing record gains and market capitalization from the previous year. He assured that the government will continue to implement market reform measures and promote the local capital market.

The investor relations sessions, organized in collaboration with the Korea Exchange, will span three weeks and involve 55 listed companies. These sessions will feature reviews of the capital market reforms and discussions on future policy directions.

Additionally, South Korea's corporate governance reforms will be a focal point, with participants exploring strategies to further enhance governance practices. Structural innovations in the capital market infrastructure, such as extended trading hours and a shorter T+1 settlement cycle, will also be examined.
