Seoul:The foreign ministry has summoned Andrii Vieshkin, the acting ambassador of Ukraine to South Korea, following Kyiv's announcement of the transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war to Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed in a United Nations address last week that Ukraine had sent the two North Korean soldiers, who were captured last year, to South Korea.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's office has since claimed that Ukraine violated a nondisclosure agreement intended to keep the transfer confidential to protect the soldiers from potential threats, citing international law and humanitarian concerns.

In response, Ukrainian media reported a source from the Ukrainian presidency denying the existence of any confidentiality agreement with Seoul.

The foreign ministry's decision to call in the Ukrainian envoy came a day after Cheong Wa Dae expressed "strong regret" over Ukraine's disclosure of the transfer.
