SEOUL: South Korea's Defense Minister Shin Won-sik emphasized the need for a robust posture among military intelligence and cybersecurity forces amid escalating security threats. During his visit to the Defense Counterintelligence Command in Gwacheon, Shin underscored the importance of protecting military and defense industry secrets.
Shin addressed the Defense Counterintelligence Command, the sole unit specialized in security and counterintelligence operations, urging full preparedness in safeguarding crucial information. Following this, he visited the Cyber Operations Command, stressing the importance of being actively prepared for increasing threats in the cyber domain. Shin highlighted the complex nature of cyber warfare, where distinctions between wartime and peacetime, as well as friend and foe, are blurred. Meanwhile, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Park An-su convened a meeting with key commanders at the Ground Operations Command in Yongin, calling for realistic training and fostering a strong combat mentality among soldiers. This follows a meeting led by Shin with top military commanders on Wednesday, where he emphasized mental strength education among troops to maintain readiness against North Korean threats.
