Seoul:The South Korean won has surged to its highest level in over two years against the U.S. dollar, supported by corporate dollar sales. At 330 p.m., the won was quoted at 1,328.1 won per dollar, an increase of 2.2 won from the previous session's close.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this marks the third consecutive session in which the won has reached its strongest level since October 2, 2024. The currency's rise is attributed to ongoing dollar sales by local exporters, despite the overall strengthening of the U.S. dollar.
Foreign investors sold a net 535.4 billion won (approximately US$403 million) worth of local shares during the latest stock trading session. This activity coincided with a 3.73 percent drop in the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index, which closed at 5,552.74.
