South Korean Skaters Set to Shine in Women’s Singles at Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Milan: The women's singles figure skating competition is set to commence at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Tuesday, spotlighting two promising South Korean skaters. Shin Ji-a, who triumphed in the national team trials in January, will make her individual debut after participating in the team event earlier this month. Joining her is Lee Hae-in, marking her first Olympic appearance after securing the runner-up position in the national trials.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Shin Ji-a, at 17, has entered her first senior season following a series of successes in the junior circuit, including four consecutive silver medals at the world juniors from 2022 to 2025 and another silver at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics. Her personal best as a junior stands at 212.43, achieved at the 2024 world juniors. This season, Shin has recorded her highest scores of 74.47 in the short program, 133.98 in the free skate, and a total of 208.45 at the Nebelhorn Trophy in September 2025.

Lee Hae-in, aged 20, brings her credentials as the 2023 world silver medalist and 2023 Four Continents champion to the Olympic ice. Her personal best total score is 225.47. This season, Lee has achieved scores of 67.06 in the short program, 132.06 in the free skate, and a total of 196.84.

In addition to the figure skating excitement, the women's curling tournament will continue its round-robin phase on Tuesday, featuring a match between South Korea and Switzerland at Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The South Korean team, led by Gim Eun-ji, is currently ranked third in World Curling's team rankings, closely following Silvana Tirinzoni's Swiss team.
