South Korean Satellite to Launch from U.S. Base for Agricultural and Forest Monitoring

Sacheon: A South Korean Earth-observation satellite is set to be launched in the United States in July, the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA) said Thursday. The satellite, known as the next-generation medium satellite No. 4, will be transported on a Space X Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base located in Santa Barbara County, California.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea intends to utilize the satellite for monitoring agricultural activities and observing forest resources. The announcement follows a strategic meeting held by KASA and other related institutions at the headquarters of Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. in Sacheon, approximately 375 kilometers south of Seoul. The meeting's objective was to ensure the satellite's readiness before it is transferred to the launch site next month.

The project marks the fourth development of its kind under a government-led initiative aimed at standardizing a versatile 500-kilogram Earth-observation platform. This satellite continues South Korea's efforts to enhance its capabilities in space technology and resource management.
