South Korean National Among Fatalities in Thailand Train Accident

Seoul: One South Korean national was among those killed when a construction crane collapsed onto a passing train in Thailand, causing it to derail, the foreign ministry reported on Thursday. The tragic incident unfolded as the passenger train journeyed from Bangkok through Nakhon Ratchasima, northeast of the capital, on Wednesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the crane, which was part of a high-speed rail construction site, crashed onto the train carriages, leading to the immediate derailment of the train. The accident resulted in the deaths of at least 32 individuals, including the South Korean national, out of the approximately 170 passengers on board. Many others sustained injuries as a result of the derailment.

The South Korean foreign ministry has stated that it is extending necessary consular assistance to the bereaved family members of the deceased. The ministry's efforts are focused on providing support and ensuring the proper handling of the situation for those affected by this tragic event.
