Memphis: Three South Korean golfers are set to participate in the first leg of the PGA Tour playoffs, with two positioned to advance and one aiming to join them. Kim Si-woo, Tom Kim, and Im Sung-jae have all qualified for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, beginning Thursday at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the tournament is the first of three FedEx Cup playoff events, featuring the top 70 players from the FedEx Cup standings. The top 50 players after this week's competition will progress to the BMW Championship in St. Louis, with the final 30 advancing to the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Kim Si-woo, currently ranked No. 7, and Tom Kim, ranked No. 26, are well-positioned to make it past the initial cut. However, Im, who is ranked 53rd, requires a strong performance to break into the top 50 and continue his streak of appearances at seven consecutive Tour Championships.

Kim Si-woo has consistently performed this season, making 20 cuts in 21 starts and securing 10 top-10 finishes. He is the highest-ranked player without a win in the FedEx Cup standings. Kim Si-woo advanced to the next playoff event last year after tying for 14th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He will compete against American veteran Justin Thomas in the first two rounds.

Tom Kim recently ended a title drought by winning the Genesis Scottish Open in July and tied for fifth at the Wyndham Championship, propelling him into the top 30 of the FedEx Cup rankings. He will compete alongside Sweden's Ludvig Aberg in the initial rounds.

Im has had three top-10 finishes in 20 tournaments this year, though none since May. He has experienced fluctuating results over the past two months, including three missed cuts and three top-15 finishes in his last 10 tournaments. Im will face Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Canada in the first two rounds.

This week's tournament will not have a cut, with players competing for a winner's check of US$3.6 million.
