Toyota:Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yu-bin secured their second consecutive Asian Games bronze medal in the mixed doubles table tennis event on Friday in Japan, following a defeat to their Chinese opponents in the semifinals.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lim and Shin, currently ranked No. 1 in the world for mixed doubles, were beaten by China's Lin Shidong and Kuai Man with a scoreline of 4-2 (9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-3) in the semifinals held at Sky Hall Toyota, located approximately 25 kilometers east of Nagoya, the main host city.
In table tennis at the Asian Games, there are no bronze medal matches; thus, all semifinal losers automatically receive bronze medals. This achievement marks South Korea's third bronze at this year's games, following earlier medals in both the men's and women's team events.
The defeat brought Lim and Shin's head-to-head record against Lin and Kuai to 1-4. Their sole victory over the Chinese pair occurred in December 2025 during the semifinals of the World Table Tennis Hong Kong Finals, where they later triumphed over another Chinese pair, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, in the final.
Despite their aspirations to reach the final and face Wang and Sun, who were on the other side of the draw, Lim and Shin were unable to overcome Lin and Kuai. In Game 5 of their match, the South Korean team held a 10-9 lead but then surrendered three consecutive points, falling behind 3-2 in the game score. Lin and Kuai decisively captured Game 6 with an 11-3 victory to secure their place in the final.
