South Korean Baseball League Sets New Single-Season Attendance Record

Seoul:The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has set a new single-season attendance record, surpassing last year's mark with six days remaining in the season.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the KBO reported that attendance for the 2026 season reached 12,362,000 following five games played on Monday. This surpasses the previous record of 12,312,519 fans set in 2025.

Teams in the league are averaging 17,685 fans per game across 699 contests this year, reflecting an approximate 4 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. The league has consistently surpassed each million-mark milestone throughout the season, reaching the 12-million mark last Thursday, making the new record anticipated.

The KT Wiz contributed to breaking another record on Monday, becoming the eighth team this season to attract over 1 million fans, following a sellout crowd of 18,700 at KT Wiz Park in Suwon. Last year, seven teams achieved this milestone.

Monday saw three of five games sell out, bringing the total number of sellouts this season to 330, just below the record set in 2025. Eight of the ten KBO teams have experienced an increase in attendance compared to the previous year. Although the Hanwha Eagles and Lotte Giants have not seen an increase, they have each drawn over 1 million fans, with the Eagles securing the second-highest number of sellouts at 50.

The KBO also noted a 4.3 percent rise in attendance for games held from Tuesday to Thursday compared to 2025, with an average of 15,953 fans attending weeknight games.
