Kia Motors Achieves Second Place in UK Auto Sales, Driven by Sportage SUV Demand

Seoul:Kia Motors Corporation has secured the second position in the UK auto market for the January to August period, largely due to the high demand for its Sportage SUV. The South Korean automaker sold 76,850 vehicles in Britain during this time, marking a 2.3 percent increase from the previous year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kia was outpaced only by Volkswagen, which sold 111,830 vehicles. Notably, Kia was the only Asian brand to make it into the top five sellers in the UK, moving up one position compared to last year and surpassing notable European brands including BMW and Audi.

Kia's sales performance in the UK has been on an upward trajectory, consistently surpassing 100,000 units annually for the past four years. The company recorded annual sales figures of 100,191 vehicles in 2022, 107,765 in 2023, 112,252 in 2024, and 113,436 in 2025. If the current sales trend continues, Kia is on track to surpass the 100,000 mark for the fifth consecutive year, potentially setting a new annual sales record.

The Sportage SUV has been a significant contributor to Kia's sales success in the UK, ranking as the second-best-selling model with 30,564 units sold, following Ford's Puma, which sold 35,968 units. The Sportage alone accounts for approximately 40 percent of Kia's total sales in the UK this year.
