South Korea Wins Women’s Team Bronze in Compound Archery at Asian Games

Okazaki:South Korea triumphed over Chinese Taipei to secure the bronze medal in the women's compound archery team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. This victory came after a narrow defeat to defending champion India earlier in the semifinals. The South Korean team, comprising Park Ye-rin, Kang Yeon-seo, and Park Jung-yoon, edged out the Taiwanese team of Chen Yi-Hsuan, Chen Fang-Yi, and Huang I-Jou with a score of 229-228.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the match took place at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, located about 50 kilometers southeast of Nagoya. The competition involved three archers from each team, shooting two arrows per "end" over four ends, with a maximum score of 240.

The South Korean team started strong with a perfect score of 60 against Chinese Taipei's 59 in the first end. Both teams matched scores of 58 in the second end. In the third end, Chinese Taipei edged ahead with a 56-55 score, tying the overall score at 173-173. However, in the final end, South Korea secured the victory after Huang of Chinese Taipei shot an 8, resulting in a final score of 229 to 228.

Earlier, South Korea fell to India in the semifinals with a close score of 234-233, relegating them to the bronze medal match. India continued their success by defeating China 238-234, claiming their second consecutive gold medal in this event. The 2023 Asian Games saw India achieving a complete sweep of all five compound archery gold medals. This marked the beginning of the archery medal competitions at the Games.
