Tokoname:Nagoya: South Korea claimed the gold medal in the women's sabre fencing team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, securing the country's fourth fencing title on the final day of the sport's competition.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean team, consisting of Choi Se-bin, Jeon Ha-young, Seo Ji-yeon, and Kim Jeong-mi, defeated Japan's team of Misaki Emura, Yui Sano, Yuina Kaneko, and Seri Ozaki with a score of 45-31 at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname. This victory marked a significant achievement as none of the South Korean fencers had won an individual medal earlier in the competition.

Choi Se-bin, a member of the 2023 Asian Games team that previously won bronze, contributed to South Korea's impressive medal haul, which concluded with four golds, four silvers, and two bronzes in fencing.

Team fencing events are structured around nine head-to-head bouts, with each bout lasting three minutes unless one team reaches a score that is a multiple of five. The first team to score 45 points, or with more points at the end of the ninth bout, wins the event.

The match began with Choi defeating Emura 5-2, followed by Jeon's narrow victory over Sano 5-4. Seo extended the lead with a 5-2 win against Kaneko. Despite a brief setback due to a knee injury, Seo contributed significantly before Kim Jeong-mi stepped in to secure the final points needed for victory. Jeon eventually sealed the win, ensuring South Korea's gold medal finish.
