South Korea to Host Forum on Indo-Pacific Strategy

SEOUL: South Korea is preparing to host a comprehensive forum next week to evaluate its Indo-Pacific strategy on the occasion of its first anniversary. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that the forum aims to assess the strategy's progress and discuss future objectives. The Yoon Suk Yeol government had unveiled this strategy in December last year, emphasizing freedom, peace, and prosperity through the establishment of a rules-based order.

The strategy focuses on nine core tasks, including building a rules-based regional order, comprehensive security cooperation, enhancing economic security, cooperation in science and technology, climate change cooperation, and development cooperation partnerships. The forum, scheduled for Tuesday, will highlight the major achievements of the Indo-Pacific strategy and outline action plans for upcoming projects. These projects range from building maritime domain awareness platforms and combating illegal fishing to tailored development cooperation and expanding regional cooperative funds. A foreign ministry official stated that the focus has been on strengthening the strategy's foundation and sending a message of resilience based on a rules-based order, which is central to South Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy. Additionally, the government plans to announce details of the proposed three-way Indo-Pacific dialogue among South Korea, the United States, and Japan, following the agreement at the Camp David summit in Aug ust.
