Seoul: South Korea's standards agency announced plans to develop 39 new international standards in the semiconductor sector by 2031 as a strategic move to enhance its competitiveness in the global market. The Korea Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) revealed this roadmap during an industry forum, aiming to secure an early lead in semiconductor technologies. According to Yonhap News Agency, KATS aims to establish more than 15 new international standards by 2027, with a total of 39 standards to be developed by 2031. This initiative is a part of a broader strategy to bolster South Korea's technological leadership in the semiconductor industry. Oh Kwang-hae, the head of KATS, emphasized the agency's commitment to supporting experts from academia, industry, and research through active international standardization efforts. To lay a strong foundation for these efforts, KATS is collaborating with the United States through a joint standards development initiative. The agency has signed a memorandum of under standing with the American National Standards Institute and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This agreement aims to promote bilateral cooperation on both international and regional platforms, enhancing the standardization processes in the semiconductor sector.
