Tokyo:South Korea claimed three medals on the last day of the swimming competition at the Asian Games in Tokyo, falling short of their previous total from three years ago. According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Ju-ho won a silver medal in the men's 200-meter backstroke at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre with a time of 156.58, just 0.16 seconds behind Japan's Kodai Nishiono. Kim Min-seob earned a bronze in the men's 200m butterfly, marking his first individual medal at the Games. In the women's 4x100m medley relay, Kim Seung-won, Park Si-eun, An Se-hyeon, and Hur Yeon-kyung secured a bronze, concluding the swimming events in Tokyo. South Korea finished the competition with one gold, six silver, and 13 bronze medals. Despite aiming to replicate their 22-medal success, including six golds at the 2023 Asiad in Hangzhou, China, South Korea was overshadowed by dominant performances from China and Japan. Key swimmers Hwang Sun-woo and Kim Woo-min did not secure any gold medals, contrasting their combined five golds from the previous Asian Games. Kim, hindered by a shoulder injury, had to withdraw from later events after competing in earlier ones, missing his title defenses in the men's 400m and 800m freestyle. Hwang managed to secure a silver in the men's 200m freestyle, finishing behind China's Zhang Zhanshuo. The 19-year-old Zhang achieved an impressive seven gold medals, the most by any swimmer at a single Asian Games edition.
