Nagoya:South Korea triumphed over Uzbekistan with a decisive 43-13 win in women's handball at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, marking their third consecutive victory in the tournament and advancing towards their potential eighth gold medal.

According to Yonhap News Agency, six South Korean players contributed at least four goals each during the match at Kasugai City Gymnasium. Jo Eun-been was the standout performer, scoring seven goals.

The women's handball competition this year does not feature a knockout stage. Instead, all seven participating teams will face each other once, with the top three teams after the round-robin phase earning the medals.

South Korea is set to play against China on Friday and Vietnam on Saturday. The competition for the gold medal might culminate in the final match against Japan, scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday at Entrio in Inazawa.

Women's handball was introduced to the Asian Games in 1990, with South Korea clinching the gold medal in the first five tournaments and six of the first seven. However, in the 2023 Asian Games final, South Korea was defeated by Japan with a score of 29-19.
