Seoul: South Korea will provide US$1 million to help with relief efforts in earthquake-hit Afghanistan, the foreign ministry said Wednesday. The financial aid will be delivered through the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, aiming to assist Afghanistan as it copes with the aftermath of a devastating earthquake that recently struck its eastern regions of Kunar and Nangarhar.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 6, has resulted in approximately 1,400 fatalities and has injured over 3,000 individuals. The disaster has also led to the destruction of more than 5,000 homes in the affected areas.

"We hope that the aid will help the affected areas recover and enable residents to return to their daily lives as quickly as possible," the ministry said in a release, emphasizing the importance of the international community's support in these challenging times.
