Milan: South Korea captured the silver medal in the men's short track speed skating relay at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, held at the Milano Ice Skating Arena in Milan. The event marked the conclusion of the short track competition for this year's Olympics, with the Netherlands taking the gold and Italy securing the bronze.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean team comprised of Rim Jong-un, Lee Jeong-min, Lee June-seo, and Hwang Dae-heon, showcased a strategic and skillful performance in the 5,000-meter relay. This achievement signifies South Korea's second consecutive silver medal in this category, following a similar result in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Notably, Rim Jong-un and Hwang Dae-heon added to their individual medal tally, having previously won bronze in the 1,000m and silver in the 1,500m events respectively. For Lee Jeong-min and Shin Dong-min, the latter who participated in the semifinals, this relay marked their first Olympic medals. Lee June-seo celebrated his continued success with a second straight relay silver.

South Korea's medal count at the Milan-Cortina Olympics now stands at eight, with five of those medals earned in short track events. The team demonstrated patience and precision throughout the 45-lap race, starting cautiously as the Netherlands, Canada, and Italy vied for the lead. As the race intensified with 18 laps remaining, Lee Jeong-min advanced to second place, executing a skillful inside pass to momentarily secure the lead for South Korea.

Despite the challenges, Rim and Lee June-seo maintained South Korea's position, though a Dutch skater overtook Hwang with eight laps left. In a dramatic finish, Hwang recaptured the second position by overtaking Italy's Pietro Sighel on the final corner, securing the silver medal for South Korea.
