St. petersburg: Song Sung-mun of the San Diego Padres has marked his return to the majors by collecting an RBI. The South Korean infielder went 0-for-2 with an RBI, a walk, and a steal in the Padres' 5-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Sunday (local time).

According to Yonhap News Agency, Song was called up from Triple-A El Paso just before the game and got the start at third base while batting ninth, six days after he had been sent down to the minors. The Padres brought back Song and also reinstated outfielder Samad Taylor from the injured list (IL), while placing two position players, Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets, on the IL.

Song lined out to center in the top of the third inning and grounded out to shortstop Taylor Walls in the fifth inning. Then in the top seventh, with the Padres up 2-1, Song hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Taylor from third, giving his team a two-run lead.

Song was walked intentionally in the top ninth and then pulled off a double steal with Xander Bogaerts for his 13th steal of the season. The Padres gave up two runs in the bottom ninth to send the game to extra innings. They scored a go-ahead run in the top 11th, but then the Rays walked them off with two runs in the bottom half of that inning.

Song is batting .198 in his first Major League Baseball (MLB) season with one home run, 16 RBIs, and 13 steals in 63 games. Elsewhere in MLB, Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his team's 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Truist Park in Atlanta. The South Korean shortstop is now batting .081, with only seven hits in 86 at-bats in an injury-plagued season.
