According to Yonhap News Agency, Son is just one goal away from becoming South Korea's all-time leading scorer in World Cup history with four goals, a record currently shared with former players Ahn Jung-hwan and Park Ji-sung. Despite having multiple opportunities, Son did not score in South Korea's 2-1 victory over Czechia last week. Oh Hyeon-gyu, who scored the decisive goal against Czechia after substituting for Son in the second half, will start on the bench once again.

Head coach Hong Myung-bo has made one adjustment to the lineup from the match against Czechia, with wingback Kim Moon-hwan stepping in for Lee Tae-seok. Seol Young-woo, who played on the right side last week, will switch to the left as Kim takes over the right flank.
