SK Group Creates 32.2 Trillion Won in Social Value in 2025

Seoul: SK Group announced that it generated 32.2 trillion won (US$20.9 billion) in social value in 2025, marking a 23.8 percent increase from the previous year as the South Korean conglomerate enhanced its sustainability initiatives. The company has been reporting its nonfinancial performance in various areas since 2018, initially disclosing a social value of 16 trillion won.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the significant rise in social value last year was largely due to increased economic contributions, driven by improved earnings at affiliates, particularly SK hynix Inc., amid favorable industry conditions. SK Group stated that the 2025 social value comprised 31.8 trillion won in indirect economic contributions, offset by 3.1 trillion won in environmental performance and 3.4 trillion won in social performance, resulting in a total of approximately 32.2 trillion won.

A company official mentioned their goal to reduce the complexity of measurement by integrating artificial intelligence with their accumulated expertise, aiming to objectively measure and address social issues. SK Group, which operates in sectors including semiconductors, telecommunications, and energy, introduced the social value measurement system in 2018 to quantify its economic and social contributions in monetary terms. This approach aligns with the group's management philosophy of achieving financial growth while upholding social responsibilities.

The detailed results of this year's assessment will be made available on the group's website later this month, as announced by the company.
