Seoul: South Korean stocks opened 3.57 percent higher, driven by gains in major technology companies, following overnight advances on Wall Street. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 260.58 points to reach 7,552.49 at the opening bell.
According to Yonhap News Agency, U.S. stocks closed higher overnight, supported by a rebound in semiconductor shares and easing oil prices. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.27 percent, the S and P 500 rose by 0.81 percent, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite climbed by 1.3 percent.
Market leader Samsung Electronics saw an increase of 3.6 percent, while its competitor in chip manufacturing, SK hynix, surged by 4.02 percent.
