Seoul Shares Climb 1.06 Percent on Technology Sector Gains

Seoul: Seoul shares opened higher Monday on gains made by technology companies ahead of the release of major companies' second-quarter earnings results. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 86.11 points, or 1.06 percent, to 8,174.45 at the opening bell.

According to Yonhap News Agency, investors are focusing on corporate earnings results for indicators that the substantial investment in AI infrastructure is translating into profits. The movement comes amid consideration of whether the ongoing artificial intelligence-driven rally can be sustained.

Tech stocks were the leading gainers, with market bellwether Samsung Electronics rising 4.2 percent and chip giant SK hynix advancing 1.53 percent. These gains underscore the growing influence and contribution of technology companies in the current market dynamics.
