Seoul: A senior South Korean diplomat has engaged in discussions with prominent officials from Spain and the Netherlands, focusing on cooperation in tackling emerging security challenges, as reported by the foreign ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Jeong Yeon-doo, vice minister for diplomatic strategy and intelligence, met with Maria Amparo Valcarce Garcia, Spain's secretary of state for defense, during an international forum on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the military domain, known as REAIM, held in La Coruna, Spain. Jeong represented South Korea at the REAIM conference, where the discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in defense and security.

Subsequently, Jeong met with Ruben Brekelman, the Netherlands' minister of defense, to exchange views on security issues concerning the Korean Peninsula, Northeast Asia, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Both parties, representing the nations that co-hosted the 2024 REAIM summit, pledged to maintain their leadership in addressing AI-related military concerns.

Further, Jeong held discussions with Diego Martinez Belio, Spanish secretary for foreign and global affairs, covering topics such as the economy, trade, and the defense industry. Both sides committed to continuing strategic cooperation in light of the evolving global security environment.
