Seoul: A Seoul court announced Friday that it will conduct a hearing next week to deliberate on the potential extension of the arrest of former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun. Kim is implicated in the brief imposition of martial law by former President Yoon Suk Yeol.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Central District Court has scheduled the hearing for 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The court will evaluate whether to issue a new arrest warrant for Kim, who has been detained since December. Kim is currently on trial for charges of insurrection related to the martial law attempt.

Independent counsel Cho Eun-suk submitted a request for a new warrant earlier this week, as Kim's existing six-month detention period is set to conclude next Thursday, which would result in his unconditional release. Given that the same charges cannot be used to justify further detention, Cho has filed new charges against Kim. These include obstruction of official duties and abetting the destruction of evidence.
