Satellite Image Reveals Capsized North Korean Warship at Chongjin Shipyard

Chongjin: North Korea's new warship, which failed to successfully launch into the sea earlier this week, is now partially submerged and draped with tarpaulins, as revealed by a British research organization using commercial satellite imagery. The incident occurred at a shipyard in North Korea's northeastern city of Chongjin, following the unsuccessful launch ceremony of the 5,000-ton naval destroyer.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Open Source Centre shared an image taken on Thursday, depicting the warship capsized on its side. The satellite imagery from AirbusSpace shows tarpaulins covering the vessel in an apparent effort to manage the aftermath of the failed launch. The warship's launch, attended by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, resulted in what the country described as a "serious accident," with some sections of the ship's bottom reportedly "crushed." Kim Jong-un labeled the mishap a "criminal act" that was intolerable.

South Korea's military commented on the situation, suggesting that North Korea seemingly failed in employing a side launching technique, leaving the destroyer partially capsized in the sea. On Friday, North Korea announced the initiation of an investigation into the incident, asserting that the damage to the warship is "not serious."
