Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. announced on Friday that it has secured a significant order worth 290.1 billion won (approximately US$199.4 million) to construct two crude oil carriers for a North American client.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the vessels are scheduled for sequential delivery by January 2029. This recent order contributes to Samsung Heavy's progress towards achieving its annual order target of $5.8 billion for commercial ships, reaching 83 percent of this goal. Throughout the year, Samsung Heavy has secured contracts for a total of 32 vessels, which include seven liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, nine shuttle tankers, and 11 crude oil carriers.

A company official noted the ongoing replacement demand for aging crude carriers and emphasized Samsung Heavy's commitment to adapting to market conditions through collaboration with both domestic and international shipyards.
