Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has seen a significant rise this week, reaching 63 percent, as revealed by a recent poll. This increase is attributed to favorable evaluations of his diplomatic efforts and the outcomes of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held recently.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Gallup Korea survey, which included 1,002 adults and was conducted from Tuesday through Thursday, indicated a 6 percentage point increase in positive assessments of Lee's performance compared to the previous week. This marks the first instance in approximately six weeks that Lee's approval rating has surpassed the 60 percent threshold.

The poll also highlighted a decline in negative assessments of Lee, which dropped by 4 percentage points to 29 percent. Among those who provided a positive evaluation, 30 percent cited Lee's diplomatic achievements, 13 percent credited his economic policies, and 7 percent referenced the successful hosting of the APEC summit in Gyeongju.

During the APEC summit, President Lee engaged in multiple bilateral discussions with key global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Notably, in his discussions with Trump, both leaders finalized a pivotal agreement involving Seoul's US$350 billion investment commitment, which is expected to lead to reduced U.S. tariffs.

In terms of political party support, the ruling Democratic Party's approval rating slightly decreased by 1 percentage point to 40 percent, while support for the main opposition People Power Party remained unchanged at 26 percent. The survey's margin of error was reported to be plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
