Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. announced it has secured a contract valued at 368 billion won (US$254 million) to construct a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for a client in Oceania. The delivery of the vessel is scheduled by May 2028, although the company has not disclosed the identity of the client.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this contract is part of Samsung Heavy's ongoing strategy to prioritize higher-margin shipbuilding projects, such as LNG and container carriers. The recent deal contributes to the company's total ship orders worth US$1.9 billion for the year, achieving approximately 14 percent of its annual target of US$13.9 billion.

Samsung Heavy Industries continues to focus on expanding its portfolio in the LNG carrier market as part of its strategy to enhance profitability and maintain a competitive edge in the global shipbuilding industry.
