Seoul: The horror thriller "Salmokji: Whispering Water" has emerged as the leading film at the weekend box office, drawing an impressive crowd of over 530,000 moviegoers during its opening weekend, recent data revealed.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean film recorded 536,454 admissions from Friday to Sunday, pushing its total audience number to 724,039. The film, which premiered last Wednesday, follows a filming crew led by Soo-in, portrayed by Kim Hye-yoon. The crew travels to a notorious location to complete a shoot within a strict deadline, only to encounter a swamp-like terror that threatens to entrap them as time slips away.

The eerie filming location, Salmokji, is a reservoir in Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province. It has long been rumored by locals to be a paranormal hotspot, with a history of reported ghost sightings adding to its chilling reputation.

In other box office news, the Hollywood sci-fi film "Project Hail Mary" secured the second spot with 274,733 viewers over the same three-day period, bringing its cumulative audience to over two million since its release on March 18. Meanwhile, "The King's Warden" attracted 175,342 viewers, boosting its cumulative total to 16.39 million. Notably, on Saturday, it became the second most-viewed movie of all time in South Korea.
