Seoul: South Korea's spy agency indicated on Tuesday that a summit between the United States and North Korea could take place at any time, pointing to possible signs of dialogue between Pyongyang and Washington. This assessment was provided by the National Intelligence Service (NIS) during a closed-door briefing to the National Assembly's intelligence committee, as reported by Rep. Youn Kun-young of the ruling Democratic Party and Rep. Yoo Yeong-ha of the main opposition People Power Party.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee Jae Myung reaffirmed his commitment on Wednesday to establishing a permanent peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. He pledged to continue efforts to facilitate dialogue between North Korea and the United States to achieve peace. The president emphasized this commitment during a meeting of the Peaceful Unification Advisory Council's American unit, a presidential advisory body on unification, in Incheon, west of Seoul.

Additionally, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun announced on Thursday that South Korea will persist in its efforts to revive dialogue between North Korea and the United States, highlighting U.S. President Donald Trump's readiness to reengage with Pyongyang. Cho expressed these views in his keynote address at the Seoul Diplomacy Forum 2026, organized by the Korea National Diplomatic Academy under the theme "Changing International Order and Global Governance."
