Seoul: The South Korean football federation announced that the decision regarding the national team's base camp for the upcoming FIFA World Cup will be postponed until further notice from the global governing body.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Football Association (KFA) was initially scheduled to disclose South Korea's base camp location on Saturday. The team is slated to play all its group stage matches in Mexico, one of the tournament's co-hosts alongside the United States and Canada. It was expected that the Taegeuk Warriors would establish their temporary home in Mexico.

FIFA has recommended that World Cup participants delay their announcements until all teams' camp sites are finalized. Six spots in the tournament remain open, with four to be decided through European playoffs and two through interconfederation playoffs in March.

The KFA recently submitted its list of preferred base camp sites to FIFA, including two possible locations in Guadalajara, western Mexico. South Korea is scheduled to play two of its three Group A matches there, with the third match in Monterrey.

Guadalajara's altitude of approximately 1,500 meters above sea level has prompted South Korea's head coach, Hong Myung-bo, to emphasize the importance of a "scientific approach" in selecting the base camp site. This approach would involve arriving in Guadalajara early to allow players to acclimate to the high altitude.
