Seoul: A former aide to ex-ruling party Representative Kang Sun-woo appeared before the police on Saturday for further questioning in connection to a bribery case.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the aide, identified by the surname Nam, arrived at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency at 9:49 a.m., marking his second appearance for questioning in 11 days.

Nam, who concealed his face with the hood of his windbreaker, refrained from responding to inquiries from the press both upon his arrival and departure from the police station at 8:37 p.m. The allegations involve Nam accepting 100 million won (approximately US$68,170) from Kim Kyoung, a Seoul city councilor, in exchange for facilitating her nomination for councillorship ahead of the 2022 local elections.

During the initial questioning, Nam acknowledged meeting Kim alongside Kang but denied any involvement in the cash transaction, asserting he was absent during the exchange. He claimed to have moved an "item" into Rep. Kang's vehicle without knowledge of the cash inside, as per Nam's statement.

Kim, in a statement to the police, alleged she personally handed the cash to Kang at a caf© before the elections. She further claimed that Nam determined the cash amount and was present during the handover. Conversely, Kang stated she only became aware of her aide's receipt of the cash after the fact and instructed him to return it. In light of the allegations, Kang has resigned from the Democratic Party.

The police have announced plans to summon Rep. Kang for questioning on Tuesday.
