S. Korean, U.S., Japanese Foreign Ministers Reaffirm Commitment to Denuclearization of North Korea

Atlanta:The top diplomats of South Korea, the United States, and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea during trilateral talks held on the sidelines of a Group of 20 (G20) meeting. The meeting took place in Atlanta, where South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the U.S. State Department issued a readout stating that the three foreign ministers reiterated their "resolute commitment" to achieving the complete denuclearization of North Korea. They also emphasized the importance of fully implementing U.N. Security Council resolutions related to this goal.

The ministers highlighted the necessity of enforcing U.N. sanctions designed to prevent activities that generate revenue for North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. They commended the efforts of the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team in exposing violations and evasion of these sanctions by North Korea.

Additionally, the discussions underscored the need to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed concerns regarding China's actions in the South China Sea, East China Sea, and Yellow Sea, as well as the cooperation between Russia and China, which Washington views as undermining Indo-Pacific stability.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation to establish a Trilateral Arctic Pacific Partnership (TAPP), aimed at exploring maritime cooperation and economic partnerships in the Pacific Arctic region.
