S. Korean Teams Struggle at Halfway Point in 2-Man Bobsleigh at Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Milan: Two South Korean teams ranked far outside medal contention at the halfway mark of the two-man bobsleigh competition at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Monday. Pilot Kim Jin-su and his brakeman Kim Hyeong-geun posted a time of 1:51.69 after two runs at Cortina Sliding Centre in Cortina d'Ampezzo, 260 kilometers northeast of Milan. The final two runs are scheduled for Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim's team clocked 55.53 seconds in the first run to rank fifth but posted a time of 56.16 seconds in the second run, tied for the 15th-best mark in that phase. Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer of Germany are in first place with 1:49.90, 0.80 second ahead of their compatriots, Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schuller. Another German team, Adam Ammour and Alexander Schaller, finished third with 1:51.14.

One other South Korean team in action, pilot Suk Young-jin and brakeman Chae Byung-do, finished 19th with 1:52.50.
