Seoul: A South Korean cargo ship has successfully rescued 23 foreign sailors from a sinking vessel in the Indian Ocean, as reported by Seoul's oceans ministry. The daring rescue operation was carried out by the Korean ship Maple Harbor, which managed to save 21 Vietnamese and two Myanmar sailors from the Panama-flagged vessel RUN FU 3. The vessel had capsized approximately 500 nautical miles south of the Maldives on Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Maple Harbor was en route to Italy when it received an SOS signal from the distressed Panama vessel at around 7 a.m. The crew of the Maple Harbor quickly responded to the emergency by navigating to the location of the sinking vessel. Upon arrival, they found the sailors floating on life rafts and promptly rescued them.
After the successful rescue, the sailors were provided with food, beverages, and a place to rest aboard the Maple Harbor. The Korean vessel is currently working with the operator of RUN FU 3 to ensure the safe disembarkation of the rescued crew at a harbor in Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean.
