Lee Calls for Expansion of South Korea-U.S. Cooperation into Technology and Startups

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung stated that South Korea and the United States should advance their ties beyond their time-honored alliance by expanding cooperation into technology, innovation, and startups. Lee made these remarks at a meeting in San Francisco with venture capitalists investing in Silicon Valley. The South Korean president arrived there Friday en route to Brazil, the first destination of his three-nation trip to South America.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized the importance of extending the scope of cooperation beyond the longstanding security alliance to include technology and innovation. He highlighted the potential of combining the U.S.' world-class venture capital capacity and global networks with South Korea's advanced technology and manufacturing competitiveness. Lee believes this collaboration would create new global innovators, akin to global chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, which could lead the world in technological advancements.
