Milan: South Korean figure skater Cha Jun-hwan and speed skater Park Ji-woo expressed their honor in leading their country's delegation as co-flag bearers at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics opening ceremony.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cha Jun-hwan initially found the news of his selection as a flag bearer "a bit unreal." He shared the prestigious role with Park Ji-woo at Milano San Siro Olympic Stadium, marking a significant moment for the athletes. Cha, a three-time Olympian, emphasized the importance of the role, stating, "The flag bearer stands at the front of the team, and I hope that the positive energy from this role can be passed on to all the athletes of South Korea."

Cha, who has shown remarkable progress in his Olympic career, placed 15th at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and improved to fifth place in Beijing four years later. His recent second-place finish at the International Skating Union Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Beijing positions him well for the men's singles short program in Milan.

Park Ji-woo, also a three-time Olympian, expressed gratitude for her role as a flag bearer alongside Cha. Reflecting on her past Olympic experiences, she highlighted the responsibility and inspiration that come with the position. Park's Olympic journey includes competing in the women's mass start and the 1,000 meters, with plans to participate in the 1,500m and mass start events this year.

Both athletes shared a message of encouragement for their fellow competitors, emphasizing the importance of savoring each moment at the Olympics. Park advised younger athletes to "enjoy it, have fun and make great memories at the Olympic Games."
