Seoul: Nuclear watchdog officials from South Korea and Sweden met Monday, engaging in policy and regulatory discussions on high-level radioactive waste and small modular reactors. The meeting in Seoul signifies continued collaboration between the two nations on nuclear safety and technology.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting follows a memorandum of understanding signed in 2014 between the two countries. Sweden is recognized for its advanced technology in the disposal of high-level radioactive waste and is constructing a deep geological disposal facility, becoming the second country after Finland to undertake such a project.

The South Korean nuclear agency expressed its intentions to enhance the country's regulatory capabilities for high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities through its partnership with Sweden. This collaboration is expected to bolster South Korea's efforts in managing nuclear waste effectively and safely.
