S. Korean and French Central Banks Collaborate on Digital Assets and Climate Change

Seoul: The Bank of Korea (BOK) announced on Tuesday that it conducted a joint seminar with the Bank of France focusing on digital assets and climate change, aiming to explore their effects on the global economy and the evolving role of central banks in the current financial landscape.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the two-day seminar, concluding on Wednesday, convened central bank researchers and academic experts from South Korea and France. The discussions centered on the influence of stablecoins and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) on payment systems and the international monetary framework. Participants also examined the implications of climate change on inflation and the broader macroeconomy, alongside policy challenges confronting financial institutions.

The BOK stated that both institutions are exchanging perspectives on the central banks' roles and policy response strategies amid recent financial environment changes. The seminar is designed to further academic exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. This forum is a component of a regular academic exchange program that has been alternately hosted in South Korea and France since 2024.
