Milan: Short track speed skater Kim Gil-li secured South Korea's sixth medal at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, earning a bronze in the women's 1,000 meters on Monday. Kim finished behind Xandra Velzeboer of the Netherlands and Courtney Sarault of Canada at the Milano Ice Skating Arena, marking her first career Olympic medal.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's medal tally now includes one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals as the Winter Olympics enter their final week in northern Italy. During the women's 1,000 meters race, Kim briefly led with two laps remaining, but Velzeboer and Sarault overtook her and maintained their positions until the end. South Korea has yet to secure a gold in short track at these games, with Rim Jong-un previously earning a bronze in the men's 1,000 meters and Hwang Dae-heon taking silver in the men's 1,500 meters.

Earlier on Monday, Rim and Hwang were eliminated in the men's 500-meter heats. However, Rim later led South Korea to the final of the men's 5,000-meter relay. South Korea still has three chances to claim its first short track gold in Milan with upcoming events in the men's 5,000-meter relay, the women's 3,000-meter relay, and the women's 1,500 meters.

Additionally, South Korea's women's curling team triumphed over China with a narrow 10-9 victory in their latest round-robin match at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium in Cortina d'Ampezzo, located 260 kilometers northeast of Milan. Despite China overcoming a 7-2 deficit to lead 9-8 after the ninth end, South Korea's skip, Gim Eun-ji, delivered a crucial takeout shot in the 10th end to secure two points and the win. The South Korean team currently holds a record of four wins and two losses in the 10-team round-robin competition and is set to face Switzerland on Tuesday.
